Jim Buckner was a 'Texas boy' who moved to Mayfield when he was in the 6th grade. His family left Houston after the oil market crashed. They had relatives in the Mayfield area, so they decided to call Mayfield home.. Buckner and Castle became inseparable friends during his time in Mayfield. Like all good things, it had to come to an end. Buckner's parents got divorced, his dad found a job back in Texas, and Jimmy was sent to live with him. "I'm gonna miss ya buddy" Castle told Buckner the day before he was getting ready to leave. "Don't worry you can come visit me in Texas, I will be living in a border town, I hear they are lots of fun." Buckner stated with a smile on his face.
"Look at all these chica's" Buckner told Castle. At the time both of them were at a nightclub called the La Rosa Roja..aka..The Rose..The Rose was one of the hottest nightclubs in Reynosa..Reynosa was the Mexican border town adjacent to McAllen. Back in the day, Reynosa was a hot-spot for young party-goers "Let's ask these girls to dance" Buckner told Castle..The two of them spent the rest of the night dancing and partying with a bevy of nice looking women..
"You want to go back to my place?" Martina asked Bob Castle..She lived across the border in McAllen..Castle had been getting a great vibe from her all night and gladly accepted her offer. The plan was for Castle to ride with Martina and her friends back across the border and Buckner would follow in his car. The problem? Buckner got held-up crossing the border back into McAllen and lost track of Martina's car. This was before cellphones, so calling was not an option. "Shall we look for your friend" Martina asked Castle.."Naaa..He is a big boy..We can find him later..let's go back to your place." Castle stated. The truth of the matter? Castle didn't like the idea of looking for Buckner all night when he had a beautiful senorita sitting on his lap..
"Where you at boy?" Ed Buckner was Jimmy's father. He had been affectionately nicknamed 'Mexico Ed' by Castle ..It was 5 in the morning and Castle was calling Jimmy's house trying to find directions on how to get home. Remember! Castle was in a foreign town for the first time and had no idea where he was or how to get back to Jimmy's..On top of that! Martina's boyfriend had just shown up ..Fortunately, their was a group of girls at Martina's place, Castle pretended he was with one of the single ones.."I have no idea how to get back to your place" Castle told Ed Buckner. Castle than gave the phone to Martina and she got the proper directions on how to find the Buckner homestead. Martina and her boyfriend ended up giving Castle a ride back to Buckner's place.."Bye..it was nice meeting you" Martina told Castle as her boyfriend and her dropped Castle off at Buckner's place. "Uhhh..Thanks for the ride" Castle told Martina and her boyfriend..Castle watched the car drive away and said to himself.."That was really awkward."....
